About Us

SPIC-Emmen is an innovation cluster in the Netherlands that offers equipment, facilities and services openly to the plastic industry. Within the cluster many key technologies surrounding polymer development and production are available. On this website an overview of the available technologies, analyses, services and production capacities is provided. The shown assets are owned by different companies and institutions that joined the cluster, who are convinced that sharing these assets will accelerate innovations and improve the utilization of assets.

The newly founded company SPIC Facilities B.V. is executing a major investment program for R&D facilities which will be used to develop new sustianble plastics and products thereof. The equipment includes spinning lines for multifilament and monofilament spinning and drawing. Polycondensation reactors, 3D printing facilities an analytical devises. The investment programm is funded by Senbis Polymer Innovations B.V., European Commission through the ERDF Programm, the Dutch Government, the Province of Drenthe (NL) and City of Emmen (NL).

Sustainability within SPIC

Many innovations that are realized at the cluster focus on sustainable polymers. This concerns both the development and production of bioplastics as of recycled plastics. We believe that both recycling as utilizing biobased sources or biodegradability are important means to improve the ecological footprint that we as humanity are having on the planet. The selection of the type of sustainable polymer always depends on the application and on the environment in which the product is used.

Most plastic products today are still made from conventional oil based raw materials, and only a minority is being recycled after use. Both consumers as all parties involved in the production chain of plastics know that this has to change. Companies active in the SPIC cluster already realized this need years ago and therefore focus for a great deal on sustainable product and proces development. Also new investments in both R&D equipment as production capacity are mostly realized because of the ambition to enter the market with new sustainable solutions.

Develop or manufacture products at the SPIC partners

The organizations behind the SPIC cluster are inviting parties to utilize the available assets and to look at cooperation options for R&D or manufacturing.
If you find our equipment or services to be relevant for your ambitions, please contact us.
