Senbis Polymer Innovations has succesfully developed a fully compostable high tenacity yarn produced from 100% biobased PLA. In June 2018 the first commercial production was executed at the melt spinning production facilities of MSP Emmen.

The first large scale application of this PLA yarn is a twine designed for the horticulture industry.
The compostable twine has been tested on large scale in several glass houses for the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumbers and paprika’s.
